Can anyone supply the width ( from outside of one rear 13.8 tire to the outside of the other 13.8 tire )on a SHV. The wheels are set bowed out ( to minimize the width ) and they are even with the end of the axles. Thank you.

I bought a 3/4 drive socket set at Menards for $39.00, take a couple of blocks,a jack and slide them in if you need to. I,m going to a farm sale next Monday that has a stuck 'H' on it.One of the rear tires blew out when they tried to air it up to move it,and it was full of calcium. If I get it bought,I'm going to put one of the rear rims off of my 'H' on it to get it home because I just got a new steel decked trailer and I don't want to scuff the paint just yet.John

Take a look at the final drives on the High Crops. They have very little room for adjustments. About the only adjustment is to reverse the wheels. I have moved the wheels in and out on my Super C and M but the SHV is a different animal.

Bud,

I only have numbers for H and HV. Are the Supers any wider ?

From the Operators Manual -
Tread, rear (HV) 69 inches.
Width overall (HV): Minimum (to outside edge of rear axle) - 85 7/8 inches.

From the IH Service Manual -
Tread, rear (HV) 60 to 72 inches.

The dimensioned drawing show the tread to be measured to the center of the tire.

My 12.4-38 Firestone tires are 11" wide. The sidewall of the tire lines up pretty well with the dished portion of the wheel.

Bud: Gosh this is worse then getting blood from a shovel handle. True the auctioneer may be able tell you how wide it is right now, but you really want to know how narrow it will go. I have a neighbor with a restored SH and unrestored H. He has another project on the go right now I should visit. Will do that tomorrow and get hold of his manual. Probably find the specs page missing. If you get an answer in the meantime great. Good luck.

Your right , this has been much more difficult than I thought it would be. I'm planning to attend the Bill White Auction with the intent of bringing one of his SHV's home to Texas. I would prefer to drag my car carrier which has 82 inches of clearance between the fenders. I can borrow an over-the-wheel trailer if need be but I don't like my loads that high in the air. Its about a 1600 mile round trip.

Bud: I went for that visit today, and came up with the same figures as riverbend, mainly due to the fact this manual was for H and HV also. However looking at some close up shots of the axle carrier and final drive, the whole unit is completely different from the regular tractor. In other words it is not a H axle carrier with a final drive added. The axle carrier portion is definately for HV only and couldn't say for sure but think carrier and final drive are one piece. Having said that I would expect the same castings were used on SHV as on HV, as it applies to dimensions. I expect the only difference you will find between HV and SHV as it applies to wheel tread, is the actual way rim fastens to wheel. So if minamum tread on HV with wheels dished in is 60" quite likely SHV may go to 56" 0r 58". My opinion you will be able to get SHV as narrow or even less than HV. I hope this works for you, best I can do.

Bud: V letter series Farmalls are something I wouldn't want to voice an opinion on as to value. I would gather a Super HV is quite rare, seeing as how the Super H really only had two years production. Keep me posted on how you make out.

You know both those tractors are going to sell Higher than the MOON. Only 75 others ever built. And I bet They all were gasoline, not Kero like that pair. GOOD LUCK!

I'm quessing $10-12,000 but I will go a bit higher depending on the quality of the restoration.

If this is going to be at an auction why don't you call the auctioneer and have him find out for you. They should be happy to do this if it brings another bidder to the sale.

Believe me I have asked but so far no response. Generally I haven't had much luck getting information like this from Auctioneers. The problem is that they are not close to the merchandise until auction day. They may come through yet but I thought someone out there may have the information. Thanks
