Hey, Im just curious, what is a C capable of doing? i know the HP numbers arent exactly mind numbing, but for back then, they were pretty good.

What all can it pull? Good for stumps?

How big of a plow? Discs? Cultivator?

Ive got a ....dont laugh...1/2 acre to farm here, i know, its overkill...but its what Ive got.
I just want tomatos, squash, and cucumbers, so its plenty.

When I was growing up in the early 50's we had a SC and Ford 8N. The SC was the main tractor, we had 2 furrow plow, 6ft sickle mower, 2 row cultivator, 6ft tandem disk and front end loader.
It was used to pull a NH forage harvester that had a V4 Wisconsin engine on it. Later we used it to bale with IH 45 baler but did not pull wagon behind it. The Ford was only used to rake hay, run the forage blower or pull wagons. The SC was the work horse on our farm until we traded SC for 300U in 58.

I wouldn't recommend pulling stumps out with a C. Not enough weight, or HP for that fact. I pull trees out with my 560, and have had some close calls. I usually let my hitch at 20 inch, 15-5-38 tires full of fluid, and bout 450 pounds of weight on the front, and I still can bring her up on the wheelie bars that I put on it for pulling. She'll pull em out, but anything over 5 inch, time to get the chainsaw, lol!! Best of luck!!

So, basically its good for anything ill ever need it for, and then some. After restoration, theres so little it will do that it will probably look new for many years. And due to the warm climate the original 6V system will be in its prime!

im going to go throw the hand crank over out fence row into the woods behind out property, ive heard too many horror stories about hand cranking, and if its not there, Im not tempted..

Don't throw your hand crank away it may just come in handy. For one reason or another the starter on my Super A keeps packing in on me, when it works it works great, but when it doesn't I just walk back into the barn, grab the crank and off I go. SAm in NS

Don't throw the hand crank away. As others have said just be careful. I have the cranks for both of my C's. I have no intention of using them. They are there for decoration. If you ever sell you C then the new buyer would probably want it.

Hand crank ain't that bad, just don't wrap your thumbs around the crank. When i start dads F-20 I crank all the way around and then pull the crank towards me. When i crank the h i put the crank so it sticks out the left side of the tractor(when you stand in front)and give it a quarter turn and pull the crank towards me. So don't put it out in the fence row, the battery might die sometime.

I think we used to call that "gardening" but what the heck, if you sell a few it's a farm. Seriously, don't pull stumps. And I have to question the concept of baling with it. Maybe balers were a lot smaller back then. I can't imagine the average baler behind such a light tractor. Half an acre, a few implements....sounds like fun to me. C stands for "cute". A lot of people don't know that.

I have the Farmall C my father farmed actively with for years along with all his implements. He farmed around 150 acres on two places using just the C and later an 8N ford. He used an 8 ft tandem pull disk, 2-14" bottom plow, 7' sickle mower, two row cultivator, and raked and baled with it. Most would not even consider using a C for some of these tasks now, but it worked for us, and the C still runs fine. More recently I mounted a 3 point adaptor and used it for some bush hogging around the place. Handy tractor, and fun to use.

In my area many small farmers (up to 75/100acres) bought new Cs for their only tractor. I lived in row crop and cattle area of South and the following is what you would typically find in their equipment shed. 2 bottom semi mount or quick hitch plow, 6 foot tandem disk, some kind of spike tooth harrow, 2 row mounted cultivator with planter and fertilizer attachments, small grain drill, fertilizer spreader for small grain and pasture, 6 foot sickle mower, hay rake, wagon with 7x14 bed, belt driven feed mill and belt driven cut off saw for cutting firewood. Some would have hay baler but most hired custom baler. As for pulling stumps no tractor is good at that unless stump is rotten. Have tried to pull small stumps with 100+ HP dual wheel tractors and usually only succeeded in breaking chains. Trying to pull stumps has led to many tractor accidents.

Tommy, I don't know too much about implements for the Farmalls since I just got into them this past summer.
I do have a plow for my C which is a hillside plow.
It has 2 plows but you only use one at a time.
The moldboards are turned the opposite direction of the other plow.
You plow one furrow and instead of backing up to the beginning, you just turn your tractor around and drop the other plow. Of course if you were in a large field, you could go round and round.
I really don't know what size the plows are, but they are bigger and about twice as heavy as the Dearborn plows for my 2 N ford which I think are 14 inch.
Of course, with the C you would only be pulling one plow at a time instead of 2 as I would with the ford.

I've posted a scanned picture in the Implement Photos.

In case my link doesn't work, it is listed as Farmall C 199 plow.

There is a two bottom mounted plow for the C. Most people are pretty proud of them ($$)so I haven't bought one yet. I think that that is a 2-12". It is lifted with the rockshafts. I pull a 5' gyro mower with mine. It handles it pretty good as long as the brome grass doesn't get too tall. Then you just need to take a half swathe. We used it to pull a 4 section drag over the potatoe patch. It handled it just fine in second gear. It should handle a 12-15' straight disk. We used to pull a 15' straight disk with an H in 4th gear. An H isn't much bigger than the C. With just 1/2 acre you aren't going to abuse it too much.

Hey tommy, You should get the book 150 years of intarnational harvester by ch wendal. It will tell you some of what you need to know, the c should be able to pull a 2 furrow plow. I have an m and know more what it can pull, I have a 2 furrow ihc plow that i pull but i could pull a 3 bottom with ease. I know this one guy and he cranked his super m up and puts lots of weight on the back and he can pull a 4 bottom. I'm not laughin, i would love to have 1/2 an acre to work up.
