Keeping the old 140

I have a fairly good condition IH 140 and am moving to a 4 acre lot. I do not have a finish mower for this tractor, but do have a rear mount bush hog. I would like another tractor with a more modern engine, but wonder what type of mower would work on the back via the 1 point hitch using the old 140?

Any suggestions?

Woods makes a 60" rear mount mower for the 1-point fast hitch. I have one. Another of my tractors has live power takeoff, which really is a benefit for mowing. But patience with the 140 can get the job done.

Mark, Don't confuse "modern" engine with an engine which has over and over passed the test of time. The engine design you have in your 140 has been used for over 60 years, and is a proven workhorse. And while you can indeed buy newer, I doubt you can buy better. For the acerage you have, I doubt you can find a better tractor to do what you intend. as Hugh alluded to, if you dont like the one point hitch, a three point is easilly installed. The hydraulics on the 140 are excellent, and with independent rock shafts for front and rear, makes that tractor a very versitle tractor indeed. my suggestion is that unless your 140 is in deplorable condition, which I assume it is not, then why go out and shell out money for a tractor which is doubtful will provide you with more than you already have.

Mark: Get your head examined, keep the 140, if your only playing around on 4 acres more modern engines will not be any better, just more costly to maintain.

If you already have 1 point hitch very easy to add a 3 point conversion.

Oh man do I have alot of 1 point equipment. That is my main reason for keeping the 140. I even have modified a 3 point post hole digger to work on the single point hitch (see photo in archives of Implement photos). My question deals with the mower for the tractor. The Woods 60 inch single point sound like what I need, any pictures? Sources. Was the mower factory or modified?

thanks

Mark: First I must apologize for telling you to get your head examined. I just tend to get a bit uptight over someone thinking of getting rid of one of the most economical Farmalls to have around. I have a SA, 130 and 140 all with 1 point fast hitch I also have a set of fergie lower links and a top link for use on my 130. I have two 1-1/4" bolts with cat I pins welded on the head. I put those in holes where rear cultivator mount. Drop my 1 point pull bar and cross bar and can use the fergie 3 point.

I have 14 different implements for my tractors, including 3 plows, 3 S tine cultivators, disk, corn planter, small seed veg planter, rotary hoe, snow blade, two center mount cultivators, sprayer and crow foot packer. I am not the guy with one point mower, that is Bus Driver. I am thinking about getting a mower, as the one I use now is worn out. ( not at tractor mower)
