Hi, y'all.

I changed the hydraulic fluid in my Super A a couple of months ago, and ever since changing it they lower nice and smooth, but are really 'jumpy' going up. Does that sound like air in the lines to you folks? How do you recommend dealing with whatever the problem is?

Thanks,
Darren

Darren: From your description, sounds to me like your have some traped air somewhere or may be dirt. Did you remove the screen when changing the oil? You might also try removing plugs where lines from pump go into the touch control unit. When you have the plug out turn engine with starter some. Don't let it fire up, you really done need an oil bath this early in the new year.

Over the years I have encountered much the same problem as you are having a few times. I has always happened right after draining or having lines off between pump and touch control. My experience is it usually goes away in a few days. When I think about it, I would have been working those tractors hard and long days those days. How much have you been using your tractor lately? I used to think when I was farming how great it would be to keep one of these little tractor around for playing and yard work. I'm finding they are more trouble than when they were worked all day.

Hugh, What you say makes good sense to me. It hasn't seen much use at all since the fluid change, and I didn't check the screen or bleed it through the line plugs (like I probably should have.) I'll get in there and check those things. I've heard a lot of folks on these forums say they had a huge improvement just cleaning the screen when their hydraulics went weak.

Thanks again for all your help. (this is about the 37th question you've answered for me!)

Darren, All tests on the touchcontrol are done with a prewssure gage installed on the rear 1/4" pipe plug. There is a 10 point test procedure, which I really dont want to type out and I dont have a scanner. You can get the service manual off this site for $8 bucks. Maybe one of the other guys can scan there manual for you. You might try checking the screen on the side of the unit for dirt.
