Give a couple salvage yards a gingle on the phone. You might find a good used one priced reasonable enough to not mess with yours. Alot of M's around but not sure what a good hood goes for. I have done a little repair to these hoods with wire welder and grinder but the damage was minimal (filling in small holes, fixing cracks by the fasteners, and so forth) but the sheet metal is thin and easy to burn through even with a wire welder.

Well Paul G, It depends on how chopped up the hole is. On my 600 when I got it someone had let the muffler and clamp slide down and put a pretty good grove in the sheet metal. I just welded a strap across the exhaust hole and centered a 1/4 in hole for my hole saw pilot and made the exhaust hole a 1/2 in larger in diameter. You really can't tell is larger and it sure is easier than trying to weld it up.
