can't fix carb when tractor is not running gas leaks out of carb must shut off every time I get off tractor I rebuilt this carb 2 times and still leaks HELP

CHADS RIGHT MAKE SURE THAT THE FLOAT IS NOT RUBBING THE BOWL. I HAVE HAD TO PUT IN 3 NEEDLE VALVES AND THE SEAT BEFORE IT STOPPED.YOU CAN GET THE NEEDLE VALVE FROM IH.

Thanks CDV, I was just logging on to post the same issue. I hope you don't mind me tagging along.
I have tried the earlier suggestions and this has continued.
I found that the seal was not snug where the top joins the manifold, can this get worse when the air suck through?
Also, I am wondering what else there may be. Can we get needle valves with an old style tip. My engine is flooding out and I am wondering if there is a way for gas to get pulled way up into the venturi?

If the float is in adjustment,, and the needle seat is working,, you might check the metering stem seal. it should have 2,, one at the top, and one at the bottom. if it is leaking it would act up.. I had found older rebuild kits that still have the steel needle valves,, I don't know where else to get them unless at a salvage yard. If you suspect a vaccum leak,, replace all of the gaskets,, I have used a spray sealer on the carb/manifold gasket,, ChadS

I am not sure if I was clear. I have a 300U. I pulled the metering stem off as you suggested, but only found a seal/ring gasket at the top of the stem.
I am able to see beyond the choke plate when I have turned over the motor. The gas seems to be weeping down into the intake area behind the choke plate. Can I have a poor seal around the venturi? A poor seal at the metering needle valve seat?
I have been taking the bowl off and on when I try new things and leaving the throttle body on.
I am thinking about getting a whole new gasket set once more. If I do so, maybe I will seek out a steel needle valve.
Any suggestions before I have to tear the whole carb off and tear it apart for another rebuild are appreciated.
What is a reasonable cost to have it rebuilt by a mechanic if I have it off and torn apart already?

Possible,, the gasket may not be sealing around the venturi, Look at the float,, make sure that it is not rubbing the carb bowl,, and it is proper adjustment. Most of the ime, the float has got bent,, and is fillingthe bowl too full, The float should not hang down excessivly,, just enough to operate the needle, I can rebuild the carb completly for $125.00+shipping. I have kits in stock,, So check the float, the needle, all of the seals, and check the fuel bowl for warpage. If all of those are in check,, it should not leak. CDV; Having leaky carburetors is probably my biggest problem as a rebuilder. I will give you a few things to try.
1) Make sure you did not get any dirt past the inlet screen and into the valve & needle. This will not let needle seat to shut off gas completely.

2) Did you make sure the float had no leaks(shaking it would tell you if gas is getting in to the float causing it to "not float"). Also does the float move freely? Turn the carb. when it off the tractor(make sure it is drained first), if the float is free you should feel it or hear it moving as you twist it in your hands. If not it's probably rubbing the bowl & you will have to bend one of the pontoons to adjust.

3) If you still have problems you can bend the float down slightly & this will cause the fuel to be shutoff quicker.

These three factors are the most common but there can be other things causing your leak. If after trying all of the above post back for other ideas or solutions. Good luck!

Since they went to the neoprene tip on the needle valve I've had the same problem I think a piece of dirt or rust damage the neoprene tipe then they leak.
