Plow adjustment question.

I asked this question from the John Deere boys also. I purchased a JD 4200 plow two years ago. We plowed 40 acres a year for the past two years. I grew up on a ranch in the mountains of Colorado so I knew nothing about plows when we bought it and only a little more now. This is a 4 - 18" bottom plow and I pull it with an IH 5488 MFWD. I'm going to need to plow 100 acres with it this coming year and need to get it adjusted and working better than we have in the past. The biggest problem is it gets stuck in the middle when you spin it. Any idea on what is the problem and how to fix it? Also does anybody know a good source on adjusting plows?

Thanks,
Dan

Turn the tractor steering wheel to get plow to spin completely.

your plow must be a two way roll over plow from what you are describing. you need to go to your john deere dealer and order a owners manual for your model plow.

DEM66: My problem with this right now is I have no idea on meaning of this terminology," stuck in the middle when you spin it". Could you be just a bit more specific on what you refer? I have made note of your equipment and that combination should work like a dream if adjusted properly.

This plow is a spinner plow. It has the bottoms on the top and bottom that throw the dirt in opposite directions. When you get to the end of the field you spin it as you turn around and you head back the other way. So you are always throwing the dirt into your furrow.

Dan: Between you and Randy I get the picture. Here that one is called a roll over plow, just another geographic based terminology. That plow works on a very specific wheel tread setting on tractor. As Randy said get the John Deere manual, it will tell you that setting. Probably no more than a couple inches leway on that wheel tread setting.
