I don't know what IH might have done, but sometimes independant motor rebuilders tag the block and/or the head for identification or warrantee purposes. We recently had an IH RD-450 truck engine in the shop that had a neat tag riveted to the head and to the block with the name of the rebuilder and a serial number. Unless someone has an explanation of Harvester installing tags on these, perhaps yours was a rebuilt at one time?
