Hi I'm in the process of restoring a 1940 H serial no. 26124 Most of the casting nos. are for may 1940. I've done a little research and as near as I can tell it was assembled the 1st or 2nd week of june. My question is about the magneto. Is a cable kill correct,or is a kill switch correct? I,ve read that mid 1940 is about the time they discontinued the cable kill. I would like to keep it as orig. as possible. Thanks

third party image

The manual grounding switch system (cable kill) was used on all Hs from serial number 501 to 43874. Attached is a pic of a NOS cable.

does anyone know where I can get a cable and the related parts? My H came with a delco distrubutor . I picked up a used mag, and kill switch, but I have totally rebuilt the H and want to keep it original. I have never seen any on Ebay, or else where. Thanks Hank

I am working on having as close to an accurate cable as possible available in the future. I have only seen the 2 NOS ones I have and another that a friend bought at a show a few years ago. As far as getting something that looks close, if you go to a farm & fleet, advance auto parts, etc. look for a choke type cable that has a metal knob on it (generally marketed as the HELP! brand).

Yes, there is an "ignition" switch for magneto tractors. The switch works opposite from a battery ignition tractor. On the later, you pull out to make a closed circiut and back in to open it. With mags., You pull out to open (un-ground) the mag and push in to close the circiut to ground out the mag. These swithes look identical so you need to specify what type when you go to get one. If you are not sure, a quick check with a multi-meter will tell you what you have.

I thought the cable kill was used only on hand crank models.
