My 1941 H came home today, it was repainted with new rear tires and I thought I had a "deal" but now I wonder? Not running too whoopie so I tinkered with it, put new points in and plugs. The tractor had been painted with the plugs in and unmasked. I hate to critisize another man's work. The coil wire was graphite and of course it was broken. But still it don't run smooth. so off comes the valve cover to check the lash. Bingo! Looks like gas valves in a kerosene head. No spring tension at all and the adjusters are run clear out. Don't some people know nothin? The back bolt on the manifold lacks ¼ inch of being tight. Wonder what else I will find wrong? But anyway it looks like the head comes back off. Maybe I bettter stick to buying stuck tractors. At least I know what is wrong with them. Sorry for the rant but just had to dump on somebody.

I had a similar problem, but the H I bought had high altitude valves in a distillate head. The tractor started fine but idled like it had a full race cam. The new valves were about twice the price of valves for a gas head.
Good Luck!

Depends -- you can get the head fixed for less than what new rear tires would have cost you.
