We live about 200 miles north of Melbourne Australia, I came by an old IH414 that has been retired to slash the grass around the place and occaisionally breach the floods to get us into town. How on earth do yoy know if the gearbox and hydraulic levels are right?

At the right rear corner behind the tractor seat you will find a plug. Remove this plug. You can check thelevel there for the hydraulic fluid. The pickup point is directly forward of that point at the bottom front of that housing.

Thanks, the hydraulic lift was getting a bit patchy, no wonder, there was about 3 inches of fluid left. Is the diff connected to the gearbox, as I can only find a filling point at the front. there is a lot of oil, dirt and leaves caked on the machine.
