super M stuck in gear?

I was using my super M today & somehow got it stuck in gear?!! (I last had it in 5th gear) When the clutch is pushed it disengages the trans but with the shifter in neutral the tractor is actually still in 5th gear & takes off when you let the clutch out. If the gearshift is put into any other gear the wheels dont budge.... it just stalls the tractor when you release the clutch. Anybody have any ideas?

you are right its stuck in a gear and when you put it in another gear then you actually have two gears engaged and that causes a lock up. Try Donnie,s suggestion .

it's not stuck in gear. it's like donnie said, the shifting fork has slipped out of the hole in the rail. If you are tricky you can fish around and hook it back in. Then remove the lever and build the end back up. Somebody needs to post a pic of a new one so guys know what it is supposed to look like.

Take the shifter out of the top of the tranny. (You'll have to knock the pin out that hold the shifter in. Its at the base of the shifter.) Take a long screw driver and put it back in neutral. Put shifter back in, put you pin back in, you can put a large hose clamp around the base until you can get to an IH dealer to get the cute little caps that go on each side of the pin. More that likely the ball on the end of the shifter has wore enough to let it slid by the rails. I've welded them up and ground them back round and it helps. Hope this helps.
