H sector gear

need to replace the steering sector gear, have tried just about everything. It will not move at all. Any suggestions??? Thanks

Gary,

Looks like this question slipped by everybody, so I'll take a stab at it. Assuming you have the worm gear out, this is the way I did it on my H. First I jacked the front of the tractor off the ground an inch or so. Then I loosened the nut on top of the sector gear so the top of the nut covered all the threads on the spindle. Put a block of hardwood over the nut and whack it a couple of times with a big hammer. This will loosen the gear most of the time. Let the tractor down on the ground and remove the nut. Now you can lift the sector gear off. Hope this helps.

tried that on the 300 when we put the H casting in place of the cracked one it had. ended up dropping spindle back off and turning it around seeing as we didnt check such things before putting it on and the gear is only half a gear.

I did do exactly that . I didnt hit real hard in fear of damageing something. I will give it another try. Thanks
