I just finished assembling my F-20 and I have been attempting to start it with only an occasional backfire along with it kicking me. I followed the instructions from the origional owners manual as best I could. Wondering if there is something that I could be looking over.

Had the same problems with my AV. I used the TDC mark on the flywheel as the guide for TDC but this proved to be wrong. Use the thumb over the spark plug hole and a piece of wire to manually find TDC. You need to be firing just after TDC not beforte (Hence the kick)

I had a 1938 F-20 at one time. Setting the spark lever in the 2:00 position made her kick. Found out someone had adjusted the lever linkage so when the lever was in the 6:00 position, it was on top dead center. You might have to try the lever in different positions.

well, if it was timed right it wouldn't kick you. so just go back over the instuctions. Sometimes it takes me several trys to get the disk in the right holes.
