Have completely rewired my 56 100 for the twelve volt conversion,, the lights work and it spins the sarter like crazy. I haven't connected the gas tank yet.I finished the bracket for the alternator and when i went to attach the wire from batt(+) of ammeter it sparked. I immediately traced each wire and please see where my problem lies: ,positive sude of ammeter to batt on alternator(sparks)positivw side ammeter to light switch (in line fuse),positive side of ammeter to ignition switch, ignition switch to coil, minus side of ammeter to starter. I haven't attached the pigtails to the alt at this time. I know this is long but please give me your expert opinion. Thanks, Clete

Clete - is your battery connected with the positive post grounded? If yes, then that is your problem. (Alternators require negative ground ONLY).

If you already switched the battery to negative ground, sparking when you make the connection then means a problem with the alternator.

Please post back with what you find!!
