M thermostate Please Help

I am going to replace the thermostate in my 1950 farmall m. I have the thermostate housing off the tractor and have it split in half,i cant figure out how to get the thermsotate out.there is a bracket with a big spring under it and i am not sure how to remove the thermostate without breaking anything.Thanks for any help greatly appreciated.

Jon - My experience has been you often gotta destroy the old thermostat to get it out of the housing. Over the years they can get stuck in there pretty good. Good news is the thermostat is made of fairly thin brass - not difficult to bend it as required to remove it.

Like the man said, tear them out of the way! Any brass or copper material will be replaced with new part. You should only have 2 parts of cast iron left when ready to put the new thermostat back in.
Be sure to get an original IH replacement thermostat (about $18.00) to get the job done right.
