Super C wide front ?

I thought a wide front would help with running over the ends of the tomato and squash vines when cultivating. Now that I have put a wide front on the C, the turning circle is so large (I think it's worse than the H), it will make it difficult to get right back into the next two rows. Is there anything that I can do to make it turn sharper ? I believe that it is off a '53 Super C.

Are these front ends fragile? Some of the parts look kind of spindly.

Thanks

Greg

JD Humm came up with a way to shorten the turning radius of a C/SC. You need to add 1" of length to the center steering arm that connects to the center of the tie rods.

The skipping every other set of rows is much easier than trying to swing back around into the very next set of rows. Lots easier on the equipment and the operator.

GOOD LUCK

Thanks for the tip. Making the center arm longer seems like it would help. I like doing every pair of rows as they come along. It helps avoid getting lined up wrong and plowing out part of a row.

I have done a lot of cultivating with a Super C with the wide front. My father taught me how to avoid the short turns, the same way he had with a team of horses. Count the rows, then after you run down the first row, skip to the center of the piece, and go back down that row, go back up the second row, and so on. If the unplanted end is narrow you still may have to use the brakes to turn tight enough, but at least it's only 90 degrees, not 180. If you need to, skip only to the quarter, continue and cultivate each row a second time in the opposite direction.

The Super C wide front is a little bit tender, mine has quite a bit of welding in it here and there, mostly from abuse and accident. I used to have two of them, but one lost both spindles when the hired help took to the ditch at full speed to avoid an idiot. I built an adaptor, and that tractor now has a narrow front from an H. Looks like it's ready to take off.
