Aux fuel filter for '47 H

I'm wanting to put an extra fuel filter in line after I clean/seal my gas tank and rebuild the carb on my '47 H. What would folks recommend? I prefer to go for the most universal or most easily found a product that will do the best job, if that's any help. Would a simple charcoal filter be best or do those require a pump to get the proper flow?

Thanks,

Dave

WALMART sells inline fram filters.
plus they are the see-thru style.
also tractor supply.

I just got an H running and it has plenty of rust in the gas tank to go around. I installed an inline fuel filter from the git go, but that is mainly just so I could get it running w/o the hassles of rust to the carb. Havent tried the magnet in the gas tank yet, but sounds like both would be great on a rusty tank if havent got the time to clean it out yet. Good luck, RayA

I installed an inline gas filter and had nothing but grief with gas flow. I found out that some inline filters won't work in a gravity condition, they need the pump to provide some vacuum.

Bottom line, just use the standard sediment bowl, and like the guy said, stick a magnet in the tank.

It helps to have the cylinder shaped screen protruding up from where the sediment bowl enters the tank.

This may all sound stupid, but it took me a couple of weeks to figure out my fuel problem.

Good luck friend

Make sure you get a gravity flow in-line filter, not the pressure type and there will not be a flow problem (unless the filter is plugged up!)

If the sediment bowl is in good shape you should be okay. But if you must, cut the metal line and put in one of the inline filters. Rust always plagues me on old tractors, but the way I get around that is to drop a crafts shop magnet in the tank. You would be surprised at how well they capture particles.

If you've already got the sediment bulb with the screen that's supposed to be in it they do a good job. then there is a screen where the line goes into the carb. If you want more just cut the line and add an inline throwaway filter.

Yeah, I wanted more. The sediment bowl screen catches most of it but I've found enough (quite a lot) of fine rust in the carb screen to want to supplement the filtering. Could it be done with a charcoal filter? This will be used after everything gets super-clean.

Thanks Cowman. I always enjoy your posts.

the charcoal filter won't work. It's meant to neutralize the gas vapors coming out the vent, not to filter the liquid gasoline going to the carb. Any auto parts store or yes even Chinamart has inline filters that will work.
