Thanks all who helped back on the 18th. I have been fighting with my 300 for over a year in my spare time and have been unable to get it running. The original problem was that it ran fine for about 5 minutes, then shut down.
After new cap rotor coil wires timing carb rebuild, someone suggested taking off the gas tank. Sure enough, the sediment bowl was full, but the little hole with the splash block had a nice piece of wood in it and there was more in the tank waiting to replace it. The carb would drip fill when the tractor was off, then dry up when used. I also found the wire from the switch to the coil was bad. (How do these get bad?)
Anyhow, I am 99% ready to go for snow plowing and thank God that the weather has cooperated to let me work instead of fret this last week.
Thanks again, Jerry

I'm glad you found that piece of wood, and I was a little ashamed of myself again when I read your post. When I was about eight years old my dad used to let me drive our IH C, pulling a little wagon, to go camping. One day at the camp-site I got the bright idea to run a dead-dry stick in the gas tank to light and start the fire. You probably guessed it, part of it broke off. It caused all kinds of problems that fall when the C was on the grain auger. My point is, you never know what a fifty year old tractor has been through, including irresponsible eight-year-olds!
