I have three M-TA Diesels and two of them has the diesel decal on the fuel tank and one has it on the diesel decal on the hood. Serial number of the two on fuel tank are 61xxx and 77xxx. The one on the hood is 76xxx. Why did the factory do this?

You can look as I have and you will find the decals had to come out this way on the tractors.

I've seen some variation on this even in the factory photographs on the Super Ms. I don't have the book in front of me, but I think the standard Diesels were done one way and the Farmalls were done another. If the guy on the line had just one a bunch of standards, he may have just put it one the Farmall the same way without thinking.

The official IH blueprint calls for the word "DIESEL" to be put on the hood side below the rib and centered under the "McCormick Farmall" decal.

Apparently at some time, the workers started putting the "Diesel" decal on the tanks. I've not found a notice from IH telling them to do this, but Guy Fay may have it.

Thanks Now if I was to paint these tractors should I put the decals back like they came out of the factory or where should I put the diesel?

Put the decals in either place. The "correct police" are aware of the dual location and won't issue any citations for this.
