The 310 and 358 are basiclly the same engine. The only difference is the stroke, and 358's have an oil cooler. A 358 out of an 826 would bolt right in a 756 for sure, but I know that the front engine mounts were different on the 358's in the 786, 886, 3088, and 3288. You might be able to change the mounts, or you might have to change the whole front cover. We have an 826, 786, and 3088 all with 358's. The 786 and the 3088 start ten times easier than the 826. The 826 starts ten times easier than the 686 with the 310 we used to have. The 358's in the 86-88 series have a lot of updates, such as higher compession pistons, an updated injector pump, and a different cylinder head with different injectors, which makes them a lot easier to be around, since they don't smoke and stink while running at an idle. As far as horsepower, the 756 has 76 HP from the factory, while an 886 has 90. A 358 with an M&W turbo kit will put out 130 HP easy. Let me know how the switch goes, I've been thinking of trying the same thing someday.
