424 3PT Raises on startup and can't be lowered

My hydraulic 3pt as soon as the engine starts the lift arms fully raise and stays there. It does not respond to the control lever for down, even though it's already in down position. I noticed that when I position the lever slowly to raise the arms and I get 3/4 way thru, the engine wants to stall. When I turn off the engine the 3pt goes back down again.

Draft control is full forward as usual when not being used and so is the position control forward (down) on the quadrant. The fast/slow lever is on fast and the isolator valve
is open as normal.

Was working fine when I parked it and when I started it, it suddenly started to do this.

Thanks for the help.

does your tractor have any remote hook ups? I don't know about a 424, but we had a 574 and it had a control on the right side near the running board that controled the remote hook ups. when that was moved down, nothing else would work. I had that with the 574 when it was moved when getting off the tractor

It has an auxilary single spool valve but that
doesn't have anything connected to it. The spool has an open flow neutral so that wouldn't affect it.

I did a search in the archives and someone with a IH 10?? had problems with the linkage in the unit, and that's my suspicion.
