Just to get you an initial answer - I'm a neophite H owner - which is close enough. Do a search in the archives for "lift-all" or "belly pump". This will get you introduced to the common issues. The I&T (Intertec) _International Harvester Shop Manual_ that goes by their code "IH-8" will cover the M, including the hydraulics. Also do a search for wiring diagrams, in the Farmall archives. In some of those postings you'll find references to a site where a fellow has posted a number of farmall models' (including H and M) wiring diagrams and wiring for conversions to 12V. You may want to look in the Articles section at this site for more on 12V conversions. In my opinion, if you're going to buy something to produce juice, you may as well get an alternator and do the 12V conversion at the same time. See the article and the wiring diagrams. I just went through a similar experience with the hydraulics on my H - hadn't tried them, needed them to operate a single small snow plow cylander. Drained the system, filled it again with _non-detergent 30W oil (do not use hydraulic fluid - system designed for oil - do not use detergent oil - it'll just foam and won't give you the proper pressure) hooked the hose (from the cylander) to the right side outlet pipe and a guage to the forward pipe on the left side, pulled the lever and everything worked to specs. The pressure came up to and leveled out at 800 lbs. There were two systems on the H - earlier worked at 500 lbs, later ones at 800 lbs. Fairly low pressure by today's standards (perhaps that's why your dad said they didn't work). I'm surprised the manual doesn't have anything on the hydraulics. My H Operator's Manual, under "Farmall Hydraulic Lift-All System" describes how to operate the control rod. You'll want to find this coverage before you begin. Hope this helps you get a start, Dave
