Some of you may remember me asking a whole bunch of questions about my 1066 transmission and it's problems.

I ended up buying another tractor with a bad engine, and putting the two together to make one good tractor.

I had all this done in time to use the tractor this fall, to do all my yearly clipping and grading. All Hi range gears and first / low makes some noise, and I still have some adjusting to do on the shifter, but everything seems to be working fine.

Well, this weekend was dry enough to move dirt, so I hitched up to my 5 yard pan and headed out to fill in and old ditch run in one of our cotton fields. I was borrowing dirt off an old gray, clay ridge. I've never had so much fun driving a tractor in all my life! I don't have any weights on the front-end and the area where I was loading was hard. I like to cut in 2nd gear low, in hard ground and that ol' 10 would raise the front wheels about a foot and when dirt started spilling over the sides of the pan, I'd start shutting the gate and the front end would ease back down. THAT, my friends, is FUN!

Conditions were just right. That particular tractor, set up the way it is, had found ground just right to load it up, and it was pulling all it possibly could and never faultered. It don't match all up like that often.

Just thought I'd share this and thank everyone on this board for the help you all have been. This 1066 is my first Farmall.

Hope everyone has a good and safe holiday.

Mitch

Those 1066's are a good old workhorse,we have had one on the farm since 1992.Hope you enjoy it.I remember back in spring of 2002 the road commission was installing new culverts/ditching
on our road, they ended up getting a road grader
stuck in a soft spot were a wetland runs next to the road. They were waiting to bring down another
one to get him out,dad decided to bring down 1066
and hook on to it,she raised the front end up
about a foot, and did some scratching even with
duals(on gravel road),but brought that grader
right up out of there.I had my fingers crossed
that she could do it,since traffic was stopped
to watch. Merry Christmas to you all!

We bought this one in '95. First Farmall tractor I ever operated. I like it. Ran a couple 7120's and didn't like the view of the hitch from the seat.

Sounds like you had a blast! Pretty neat when a project tractor can go out there and work so well.

I believe if I where you I'd add a little weight up front, I like to play it safe, but where I live we have hills and you needto beable to turn when you want to

I'm shopping for some weights now. Just haven't found any in my price range yet.

If you really need weight, you can always build a rock box on the front and add or subtract as many stones as you want to keep the front down. There are places around here where rocks are much more plentiful than suitcase weights, and the price is right.

Heres an Idea for you my backhoe tractor an 8N Ford has a cement weight on the front and it has a bracket made to hold it but with out it you couldn't drive it any where but any way you might make one for your tractor or you might even put a couple arms upfront on your tractor and put an old car/track engine on it to hold the front onthe ground. The reason I say this is becauce I've seen what happens if you flip a tractor over back words, its not pretty Be safe and have fun
