Was always told the 806 engine was used in one of IHC's caterpillar tractors before the 806 was manufactured. Is this correct?? What about the 407??

Its true they were in Construction before the IH AG division needed a engine of this size, how many years before is hard to say, IH had a large group of sizes to chose from, up to 1091" 6 cyl diesels that had been used considerably in CE crawler tractor line. The 361 evolved into a 407 by larger bore & stroke. The demensions externally didnt change.

The 361 and the 407 engines were used in several industrial applications.Crawlers, loaders, skidders, and pans are a few that I know of.Whether or not the 361 was used in something before the 806,I dont know.
