Bob, Hope you haven't started making the new pitman yet. The measurements I sent last night were from a sketch that I made from a broken one some years ago. Like you I was going to make a new one but in the end it was quicker and easier to buy new ones which I still have in the shed.
I thought I had better run a rule over them to check the measurements and found that there were some errors in my sketch.
The length of the stick is 35-5/8", the first hole from the knife head end is 1-7/8". All other dimensions are the same. Sorry for the mistake. Sid.

Bob, The pitman is 36" long.
Starting at the knife head end, measure 2-3/16" for the first bolt hole, then three more holes spaced at 1-5/16". These holes are for 5/16" diam. bolts. From this last bolt hole measure 24-3/8" along, then three more holes at 1-1/2" spacing for the pitman bearing. These are also 5/16" diam. bolts. Dimensions are for hole centres.
The pitman bearing stiffener fits in a slot 6-1/4" long.
The pitman plunger spring fits in a hole 5/8" diam. X 1-1/2" deep.
The wood is 1-5/8" X 1-1/8" thick.
Hope this helps, get back to me if it needs some clarification. Sid.
