What am I missing!

I am so close to getting my little plow tractor running I can taste it, but I am puzzled once more. (Thanks Chris C. for clearing up my mystery about the steering box grease leak. It was the freeze plug.)
I have taken off and cleaned my gas tank (where I found a nice piece of something blocking the fuel flow in the glass), taken off and rebuilt my carb., and now am getting no pop when I turn over my 300U.
I am wondering if my good hearted helper may have moved the distributor and the timing is off. Fuel flow is there, and the carb does need adjusting, but I need it to start and run first.
It has a new coil, wires, plugs, and ignition switch.
Is there something I might have done with the governor when putting the carb back on? The throttle seems to be more springy.
Any thoughts on what steps to take are appreciated very much!

Take a 12 volt test light, ground one end and touch the other end to the dist. side of the coil. " should have a + sign on it " When cranking the engine, the light should blind on and off as the points open & close. If the lights blinks the primary ign system is ok. If the light stays on the points are not finding a ground. If the light doesn't light something is grounded in the dist. housing. Also with the ign switch on, the battery side of the coil " - side" should always light the light. Hope this helps Mike

I was over at my friends today and he's got Farmalls comeing out of his ears. Well, they were pulling this H around, trying to start it, for about 20 minutes. I look over and see the rotor button on the ground, I picked it up (hiding it) and said let me take a look at it. Well, I pulled the distributor cap off, making sure no body was watching, slip the rotor on, put the cap back and told them to turn her over. Well, it took off there eyes got big and they said, what did you do? I said, well, its an ole farm trick. They think i'm da-man! Ha! Ha!! Hope you get, Big Red going. Most of the time, all you need is a small hammer and some bailling wire, these tractors are tuff. :>)

Thanx,
Farmalldude

They used to tell a story about an old mechanic around here went out on a binder call it was not tying. He walked up to the binder and saw the problem at once turned to the farmer and said I need a brace and a 1/2 inch bit, so the farmer went and got one for him. Of course while the farmer was gone the mechanic fixed the knotter then took the brace and bit drilled a hole through the tongue, the binder worked fine when they tried it.

Do you have spark at the spark plugs? Once while changing points, I accidently pinched the points wire under the plate that the points mount to. Drove me nuts! I just tore it apart to do it over when I found what I did.

the timing would be one of the first things to check. I had a guy bring me an M once that he had bought cheap at a farm sale. They had drug it alover trying to start it. I had it running before he left.

I tried the timing, and then got smart and found no spark when I set the plug wire up against the engine block.
Would a miswired switch or a broken ameter lead to this? The engine is turning over fine so that tells me that the battery is strong.

Thanks
