TA throw out bearing. Also check to see if the TA linkage is not adjusted too short as this will cause the TA throw out bearing retainer to come in contact with the rotating TA pressure plate and make a rattling noise.Try moving the TA handle forward slightly and see if the noise doesn't stop.

Chuck's repair.Took your advise moved the handle noise did stop but went into high side good thought, so i spent the rest of the day running compression test.I was suprised at 122-125-120 121 lucked out on engine. Then built splitting stands.Drained trans still dripping only got about 8 gallons and white as cream. Mabe thats the cause of gear noise. Thanks for your advise. Paul.

The milky Hy-Tran is water.IH has a boot available that you can install over the gear shift lever to keep rain water from running down the shift lever and into the transmission.I don't remember the part number or whether it is still available. It has been a number of years since I last installed one.If the Hy-Tran is as milky as you say you may have to change it a couple of times to get all the water out.It is best to drain the Hy-Tran after you have worked the tractor hard and the transmission is hot.

Chuck's repair. I hace been in auto service for years and wonder why you cannot use dextron to replace hy-trans we have been using dextron for years in manual transmissions to ease shifting effort and grinding.when i am done with repairs this tractor will be used for antique tractor pulling stock.no long hard work under load.i have also heard that hy-trans will cause seals to leak will dextron do the same?? Paul.
