Dick,
It's a bit difficult to give you a short answer without covering all the bases -- mag timing? distributor timing? cam timing?

Maybe the quickest way for you to get an answer is to use the search feature on the top of the page here. Just type in timing, and you should find mag, distributor, etc timing methods explained on at least 15 different posts.

The Red,

About 15-20 minutes away -- straight shot up I69. I'm in Hamiltion County - Fishers. Guy across the street is the Mot salesman for the silicon stuff that Delco and Delphi use, so I hear a lot about their ups and downs (mostly downs and dead fish lately at Delco).

Know that town well. We do most of the bond issues in Hamilton county. Hamilton Southeastern Schools, Noblesville and their schools. Westfield and their schools. Also Hamilton Heights. Just bought the Fishers Redevelopment bonds last week. We sold the bonds for the new City of Noblesville Corporate Campus which will be developed near the Horizon Center at exit 10.

I live on Indy westside. Farm is near Losantville.

Small world. You trade muni's in Indy? NatCity Raffensperger Hughes, City Securities? Have an account with Gene Tanner, used to have one with Chambers Chase years ago. Spent a lot of time on my Grand Dad's farm out by Brownsburg as a kid.

Anyway, raise another 30 or 40 mil for HSE while rates are still low because HSE thinks our 20 acres are the only place they can put a grade school anywhere close to Geist. I think they should pay a hefty premium for the privilege of tearing down our houses and barn. My informal count of the big buck German car traffic out front says they've got the tax base to afford bunches. When we first came here, our place was a small parcel and the biggest traffic was a JD combine from the farm down the road. The place is gridlock city now.

I guess this is a somehow relevant post in that it relates to the Timing of when to move my H and other tractors to someplace that might stay country for another 30 years -- maybe out farther east by your farm. Oh -- the sponsors prefer it if you call exit 10 rock n roll city Verizon center. There was an M up there painted like a JD a few years ago. What a hoot.

Senior municipal bond analyst (crunch numbers) at City Securities. I have met Gene Tanner but that has been 20 years ago. Bill Chambers worked at City Securities many moons ago when I was a kid. I have now been there 22 years. My Dad worked there for 46 years.

The 10 year plan on HSE is on track. Have 1 or 2 bond issues next year. Recent land purchase was $25,000 per acre. Forget where the location was but HSE has a BUNCH of land purchased for future use. When we were doing refinancings over the past several years, they bought land when it was still $10,000-15,000 per acre. Rumor has it that the farmer next to Verizon will sell at $50K per acre. A Farmall man by the way. You probably know the name. Ken Updike has told me the name but I don't remember.

You would not recognize Brownsburg. Other than the Mormon's owning that huge track near Raceway Park, it is all suburbs now. BTW, Hession out at Brownsburg has sold his huge farm operations at $25,000 per acre. Bought land in eastern Illinois. Your relation in Brownsburg probably knows about this.

Smaller world yet. I've met John Peterson as he used to come to our annual meetings from time to time -- was with RGCY in Lawrence for 16 years, but that was >15 years ago -- all gone now. I think you guys used to be MM's for us, but memory fails. Roger Chase seemd to be the local guy who used to follow us closer than anybody. Gene Tanner is around 72 now and still shows up for work every day - bought some RJR thru him back in Aug. at ~32 and he thought I was nuts. Can't wait to call him in Jan. and sell it for >60. He'll just tell me it's always better to be lucky than good.

Don't know the guy up by Verizon. The big Farmall guys around here used to be the Reynolds family -- before they bought the JD dealership. The 50K an acre sounds a bit thin for here, maybe it's a bit cheaper 4 or 5 miles north. The guy with the JD's down the road sold out for 88K an acre and that was 7 or 8 years ago. Now it's all houses spaced 50 feet apart. A different Peterson turned the corn and bean field on our east fence line into cramped elbow, expensive housing laced with a golf course four or five years ago. Good to hear HSE has a bunch of land; maybe they won't bother with ours.

No relation around Brownsburg anymore, and the farm there (used to be RR#2 Brownsburg, now called 86th St.) is covered with houses. But I surely used to throw a lot of money into the oval track and road course in Clermont/IRP with Formula Ford/Mini Indy racing. There was a guy with a yellow Lola racing about that time who was a loan officer at AFNB / Bank One. You may have heard the story of how he "borrowed" the bank's money to finance his racing, and is now in the federal pen. Another guy from Plainfield hung in there and eventually won the national championship over at Mid Ohio. He said he went through 4 chassis, 27 engines, and 3 wives in the process. Then there was the judge from Noblesville who flipped his car over the 3rd turn wall on Saturday night, and handed out speeding fines next Monday morning. I had a chassis made in a barn north of Zionsville by a guy who worked at Merchants bank, married a gal with whose maiden name was Ayres (yeah, that store) and then went into the car building business.

I pass along these stories as they're very helpful to recount next time the distaff side might raise some objection about the expense and time involved in your tractor hobby.

take care,

Steve
