I guess the word gets around with folks when they know you have a few old tractors and I was in the garage yesterday and had to move a few items away from the door. Iwas reminded of this when i had to move an H rear rim and a perfectly good H battery box all dropped off for me for free. A guy I know had them left over from his father in laws long gone H so he decided to give them to me...a nice touch, but then what goes around comes around, I gave away a good scuffler to someone who had a tractor for it to fit on and he travelled some distance to pick it up. I guess its a good thought as Christmas approaches, that our hobby includes good will. Mike in Exeter Ontario

Mike, I believe you are right, some of the nicest people are in this business willing to share ideas as well as equipment, I had been toying with the idea of putting a three point hitch on one of my Hs,well I located one and I only knew of this guy and when I was trying to get him to tell me what he wanted for it he said just take it on, I said you mean you are giving it to me,he said YEP. I havent had a chance to get it on but I plan to soon, I appreciate folks like this . Have a merry CHRISTmas. ED

Yes I like to give away things people can use and have been given a lot of stuff myself. But now with the net is tempting to sell some of that stuff and make a buck. I feel like I am doing a service to get stuff out that guys can't find anywhere else. Am I wrong to feel that way?

Cowman, no, I don't think you are wrong, If I happen to stumble across something that is hard to find, and don't need it myself, I will offer it for sale. It is the most fair way I can think of to put that item in the hands of someone who CAN use it.
On the other hand, if I know of a young person who is just getting started in this hobby, I will help them out any way I can, Even if it means giving them a part they need, or keeping my hands in my pockets at an auction when I know a beginner is wanting that item.

Rusty, I've done that myself (keep my hands in my pocket) I went to and auction last fall specificly to look at a Farmall "C". As the bidding began, I noticed this young man in his late teens to early 20's begin to bid, and decided that there would be another day for me, and hoped he would end up with a treasure. The trouble was that the owners son started bidding against him and ran the price up to where it wasn't such a bargain afterall. Thankfully, the young man stopped bidding too. I walked up to him afterward and told him that he did just right and that there were other tractors out there for him, and be patient. As far as giving stuff away, I find it more rewarding to give something to someone who can use it than try to sell it. It does come back in blessings we never dream of. But then, I'm not in the business to show a profit.

Skipper,

I could really use that M of yours.....since it is Christmas and all, do you feel the spirit moving you to donate it to me out of the kindness of your heart?

(What's that? Do I hear cussing going on down there?) :>)

I don't know about you, but I feel better giving a friend something he's been needing than making a few dollars and fighting all the shipping questions and packaging problems. It always seems to come back 2-fold anyway. ED

I couldn't agree more Mike. I have made some great friends messing around with these old girls. Trading back and forth like a bunch of giddy hens and loving every minute of it. I think some of the best people in the world love tractors. My opinion, Merry Christmas!!! Ed in Western Virginia.
