Is a SMTA hood longer than a standard or Super M?

Yes the hood is longer, however you do have to bob and taper the back of a gas hood to fit it to the LP tank, same length from the front to the gage holes. a gas hood from a M should work for you.

Jonesy, Don't trun your nose up at this ol girl too fast. There is a good possibility this tractor could be a Stage III SMTA. The tank is uguly compared to the tank on the Stage IIs. Get us a pic of the left side of tractor with a good view of the tank. The tank sits long wise to the tractor. The fill & valve assembly are @ the 11:00 o'clock position, while siting on the seat. Does it run or is it stuck. A hood shouldn't be too hard to find. Hope all is well with ya'll up at Waxahachie.
Looking forward to a pic.
Later,
John A.

As soon as I get it home Ill take a picture. I bought it sight unseen, I know, never a good practice but it was from a friend that has never disapointed me. He bought a SMTAD and this SMTA from a gentelman that was to old to climb up on them and get them started anymore. He put some diesel in the one and pull started it and drove it on the trailer. The SMTA is not stuck and might even have pressure on the tank. He sold that one to me and kept the SMTAD. Ill keep you posted on the future SMTA project.

Just my luck. Found a good deal on a SMTA with a wide front. Only problem is was converted to LP. What are the chances of finding a hood. Slim to none I would think.

What is the problem with LP conversion? LPG is a lot better than gas anytime. Why do you think so many of the farmers changed them.

#1 reason was the cost of fuel was cheaper. Around here in TX this was common as was Factory LP tractors. I still hate it when you find a butchered machine like that.

Your probably right! Double check me to be sure though Jonesy. I have been meaning to pull a tape myself. The other thing to think about is sooner or later that hood will be reproduced and that tractor never will.
