Hi: Here's a fun problem. The tractor I just bought not running a month ago now runs, but I can't put it in gear when running. Some one mentioned that the clutch is probably stuck to the fly wheel. Any thoughts on how to get it unstuck?

Thanks
Jon

Old Red H's clutch sticks on occassion. First I warm up the engine then shut it down. I then set the throttle near idle and select either first gear or reverse and start it in gear. After I get it running, I advance the throttle and keep the clutch pedal depressed. The clutch usually releases within a minute or two.

A little trick I have learned is to put the tractor in a high gear with the engine stopped, then, while holding the clutch pedal down, start the engine. You might also want to lock the brakes, for a little more resistance. This has worked for me on several occasions. Make sure you have plenty of space in front of you before attempting this, preferably NOT in the shed. If this doesn't work, you will have to do as Cowman said, and tear in to it.

have you tried towing it? or put in gear, lock the brakes and try turning the motor over with the crank. If it does not break loose you may have to take it apart. the cover comes off the top but you have to cuss the starter off. take one of the bolts out that it hits on and it will give you just enough room.
