I am repainting my 1940 B . So as I get things painted I am putting it back together. Well I have it together enough to run and I and it keeps backfiring though the carb. I rebuilt the carb . It runs but will backfire. Any suggestions to solve this? I know I am looking right at the problem but can't seem to get it. Thanks in advance.

Better get the wires on correct. Also did you paint the wires and spark plugs as the paint can ground them out.

I replaced all of plug wires, cap, rotor, and cap on the mag. I think that they are right but I will check to make sure. Also I replaced the head gasket before painting so it might be the valve need to be adjusted. Thanks I will let you know what I find. I will get back to this weekend.

as you are repainting you didn't by chance switch a couple of plug wires?

Well your timing could be off a little.
You could have a valve that isn't seating/set right tappet to tight.
Or it could be that it is running lean. Hope this gives you some help
