Hope someone can help me with this. It's driving me nuts. Have a 1951 super C that is misfiring or missing like crazy. But it's just not one cyl. missng. There is no regular miss on any one cyl. or speed. It almost like it loading up with gas or starving for gas. But it so erratic in missing I can't tell. I have check everything, plugs, timing, carb sitting, valve adjustment, new voltage reg,plug wires, dist.cap, points ,condensor, rotary button. Plugs get foulded but figure it was from missing and then firing. It has good compression so I've ruled out stuck rings, even pulled the head off and did an inspection. Could it be a erratic Ground somewhere?

My A had an erratic miss that was mostly corrected by changing the points gap. It has the Delco mag replacement unit, the point setting in the book didn't work very well. I think a worn distributor shaft can cause erratic misses also. What about the gas cap vent? Common problem.

I had the same identical problem with my 200. It turned out ta be that there was a piece of rust in the fuel tank that would sometymes get over the p/u tube and when the tractor was almost starved for gas it would act just like yours seems ta be doing. I'd try a thorough cleaning of the tank. See what ya find in there.

When did it start running like this? Before you started changing things?
Sounds like maybe the plug wires aren't on in correct order.
Do you have a good strong spark? Maybe a weak coil ? Also check for cracks around where the wires bolt on to the coil.
How about corrosion down in the coil(spark) wire terminal?
How about the point setting?
If I remember correctly, the point setting is something like .013 for mag. or .020 for distributor.
I seem to remember reading a post where the fellow had set the points to the wrong value.
What kinda plug wires do you have? Carbon Fiber or copper wire?
I've seen the carbon fiber cause trouble on non-electronic ignition systems.
Have you looked for hairline cracks in your dist. cap? Also check the rotor button to make sure there isn't a crack there that is letting the voltage arc to the metal distributor shaft underneath.
I was thinking..... if its flooding because of a bad float needle seat, it looks like if you were to shut the fuel cock off, when enough gas was used up to prevent the flooding condition and before it totally used up all the gas in the bowl, that the engine would straighten up and run right for a little while until it actually ran out of gas.

Just a few thoughts to consider.....not sure it will help any....let us know what you find.

thanks for all the comments, Firing order is correct, check that first, no leaks around the manifold, everthing is gap right, no hair line cracks, and is not flooding. Tractor ran fine one day and the next day it starting acting like this. Tried to trouble shoot it and then start to change things, and of course one thing led to another

Richard,
Things like this can be very frustrating.
Speaking of myself, many times I have made the same mistake 3 or 4 times in trying to figure a problem like this out.
Maybe you need to call a mechanically inclined buddy over and the 2 of you go through it.Just talk it over and somewhere along the line you'll figure it out.
The engines on these old machines are pretty simple and you are just overlooking something.
I once was working on a car engine that whipped me for days and finally discovered that the new set of spark plugs as well as the ones I took out weren't much good.In desperation I put a set of old plugs from another engine in and that solved my problem.

Had an M that kept going lean all the time. could pull the choke out a little and it would smooth out. Finally found that some mainfold bolts had loosened and it was sucking air. Almost drove me crazy.
