Today I took the super A for the first time to do some snow plowing, and MAN WAS IT FUN !!!!! ! One problem that came up that it has never done before however was that the engine was "hunting", which it's not done before. Todays weather was not that cold, just below freezing. The tractor was warmed up too. Any suggestions ? perhaps it was water in the gas ? I've not put any gas line antifreeze in the gas.

Also, just outta curiousity, was there ever a cab made for this tractor ? or has anyone made anything before ? would love to see some pictures if they have.

Brian.

Did you have any ice forming on the intake? My M will surge in cold weather after starting up and running for a while. I just shut it off and wait a few minutes letting heat from the exhaust side warm the intake side. After that it doesn't bother for the rest of the day.

Brian, there is a bumper screw at the bottom right, front aspect of the governor that can be adjusted inward to eliminate hunting of the engine. Don't turn it in too far or it will interfere with the idle adjustment screw. I have been told that hunting often occurs when the gasket around the carburetor throttle shaft becomes worn allowing air to be entrained. Perhaps the cold weather caused the gasket to stiffen more than in summer making the problem more noticable??

I've seen those governors all full of condensation water and that bumper spring was all encased in ice. So messing with it in the cold may be a problem. I seen one once so full of ice on the bottom of the governor housing that the engine would not idle down but ran wide open until the ice melted.

Try a can of heat. It won't hurt anything but might just solve the problem. I get this a lot with tanks that sit in hot and cold weather and get a lot of condensation in the them. Good Luck!
