WELL...LAST WEEKENDS NOR'EASTER DROPPED ABOUT 18 INCHES WHERE I LIVE. MY SUPER A HANDLED IT GREAT, WITHOUT TIRE CHAINS! I HAD NEVER PLOWED WITH IT AND IT PASSED THE TEST! NOW TONIGHT, WE HAVE ANOTHER STORM COMING. I GOT A COUPLE QUESTIONS. THIS MORNING I PUT TIRE CHAINS ON. I GOT MOST OF THE CHAIN SLACK OUT SO THEY ARE PRETTY TIGHT TO THE TIRES, GAVE IT A TEST RIDE. SEEMS TO BE A REAL BUMPY RIDE, AND STEERS A LITTLE DIFFERENT, IS THIS NORMAL?? ARE THE CHAIN "CLEATS" SUPPOSED TO BE FACING OUTWARDS?? ALSO, WHEN I START THE TRACTOR THE ENGINE "RACES" EVEN AT LOW THROTTLE, I PLAY WITH THE CHOKEROD A LITTLE, BUT THEN THE ENGINE SPEED SEEMS TO REV UP ON IT'S OWN AGAIN, ANY IDEAS?? TIHS HAS NOT HAPPENED IN THE PAST.
THANKS!

I have plowed for several years with my super A Have chains , wheel weights and and extra weight on the back. Tend to have ice in my driveway where I'm at. You won't notice the chains after a while. But you will be glad that you have them. Were getting the same snow storm as you are here in central NY Just off the lake up here so we get lot's of lake effect here also. Make sure you let the A warm up some Esp. on cold days Have fun plowing , but dress warm!

Do you have a pic of your "Super" ? I have a 54' and mounted a front blade on it. Just wondered how yours is supported. I would check for a broken spring in your governor first.

Steve, I don't have the techno gizmos to post pics. The frame is pretty sturdy, rectangular shaped, looks homemade. Sits up off the ground for good clearance under the tractor. Blades about 5ft, plows great!

Bill: These little offsets are one mean little snow plowing machine. I often plow without chains, however I find the little tractor pushes to the point snow falls behind blade and you cant back away. Unless you have ice under snow that one will get you in trouble quicker than anything. Chains are rough no question, by mid winter you will not notice them. When you take them off in spring you will be saying what a smooth little tractor. I used to plow with Super A with 9.5x24 tires. I now use 130 with 12.4x24 tires, you don't notice chains as much with the larger tire.

On your rpm problem, my guess is you have some condensation in your governors. You keep getting snow storms like that and you will work it hard enough that will go away. If you have some way of heating your shop keep it quite warm for a few days. I have this happen ocasionally, usually just few minutes, hold linkage between governor and carb so it wont over rev. Heat from engine thaws it quite quickly, although the air from fan will test your hands.

Hugh,
Thanks for the input. I think I am comfortable operating with the chains on now. Like I did last week, I'll take it slow and easy for awhile. I noticed with the rpm problem that it went away once I was in gear and the engine was under load. We're gonna get nailed with another storm tonight, so I'll get back on this baord and post how it went. Thanks again.

Bill: All that fun and I haven't had my snowblade out yet. When I moved here two years ago, I didn't know it but this yard and drivway were notorious for snow. Neighbor across the road when he saw me with 130 said he could plow me out with his 150 hp 4x4 Ford. I told him I'd call if I needed him. Got through the winter, and at that point I found out the whole neighborhood thought it was a joke that I was going to keep myself plowed out with 130.

Well, it's Monday night and the driveway is plowed neat as a pin! Got to work on time this morning too! That Super A is a great machine. We've had 3ft of snow the past two weekends. I got a 400ft driveway and I am plowed out in about 45 min to an hour. Came home tonight and played for about another hour just "cleaning up".
