Finally got my Super M and 450 back from the shop yesterday! Good news: 450 runs like unto a top! Bad news: After a complete carb rebuild from Denny's Carb Shop, new wires, plugs, points, cap, rotor, etc. The SM still misses. He checked compression and 2 cylinders are somewhat low and he is almost sure, without pulling the head that I have a burned valve or two. I'm not going to do it right away, but, what would a complete valve job run me, ballpark? I'm talking all new valves, seats, etc. all the way 'round. Nothing fancy, just get the head back up to snuff. While the SM ain't 100%, it IS good enough to be wrapped in Christmas lights to stand at attention in our front yard for the next few weeks!! Oh, and while in the shop several asked if my 450 was for sale. Nice to know I have actually made a tractor investment that's "In the black" for once! TIA Al

If I correctly recall, back in 1999 I took an H head to NAPA for the works. Parts and labor ran around $225 at the time.
