a while back I posted a message on here asking what colors my 1951 Farmall C should be painted. Someone responded saying, the the rims should be painted IH silver agrent, and the rest of the tractor should be painted Case IH 2150 red.

Now, my question is where can I find these paints at? I'm from Lansing MI, is there anywhere's close?

Thanks

Actually the correct red is 1102B, which I don't think anyone can mix -- I didn't realize that this code appeared as early as 1949. 2150 was brought out to imitate the original IH 50, and is, as you say, recommended for all early colors. I have used this on two tractors, mixed as PPG 71310 acrylic urethane, this particular version has a definite orange tint to it particularly on the cast -- whether or not that's PPG's fault, my local supplier mixing it wrong, or bad eyesight, I don't know, but it sure looks too orange to me. I did have a small amount of acrylic enamel mixed for some of the small parts, that I used without hardener, it is darker. I am going to start with IH 50 next time, and compare the colors. The spray can 2150 looks ok, I have not used the spray gun 2150, prefering to have a higher quality paint mixed (if it ever comes out the right color. I'm still a little confused on the rim color. My Case-IH dealer did say that the silver-argent paint he had was for the newer Case-IH tractors. The new tractors on hs lot and the lid on the can he showed me were definitely gray, not silver. My best guess of the rim paint I had mixed by PPG is still a little too gray -- wish someone had a PPG code for what IH used from about 1954-55 after they stopped having them galvanized. But, Guy Fay says IH didn't specify the color, just some "silver" color with the proper rust prevention. Thank's for the link, I have it bookmarked.

Just remember that IH 2150 is not the color that came on your tractor, that would be IH 50: DuPont 7410 or PPG 70019. Case-IH does not sell it. Rims: I believe the silver argent Case-IH sells is too dark for the rims, or at least the stuff my dealer sells is. but if you like it, it's ok. But, I believe it is for the newer Case-IH tractors. You need a color that looks like galvanized.

Get it from your Case-IH dealer.
