I just bought a 460 gas, it seems to be a 1959 model, since the first 3 digits of the serial number is 161. Does anyone know what the S - Z stands for at the end of the serial number? I don't have a use for this tractor, but the price was right on it, it is a narrow front, has the Fast Hitch on it, and really good matching rear tires on it. All the sheet metal is decent on it also, T/A is supposed to be good, and it has the triangle with the serial number showing that it had the updates installed in the rear end. I haven't had a chance to drive it yet, got to go get it in S.W. Ohio.

S means "TA with provision for 540 rpm PTO", Z means "hydra touch power supply (with 17-gpm pump)"

What is the difference in the Hydra Touch, over the regular hydraulics anyway? I know the difference in the 17 gpm pump, and the 11 gpm pump, but what does the hyra touch mean, or do?

I'm not the 460/560 expert, but it's just an improved system, someone else will have to provide the details. But, I think the big change in hydraulics camr with the 300, 400 series where there were 2 or 3 valves instead of one. On the 460/560 there was a knob or lever that selected either one or two way cylinders.

Make that "540 Independent pto", an R code designates the transmission driven pto.
