Any idea why this happens? I had the injector pump rebuilt at a shop just for this reason and finally after installing, timing, testing, removing and hauling it back to them about 3 times. I gave up. They kept telling me nothing is wrong. It is a pain having to drain and refill it with oil every time i use the tractor. Some days it isn't bad, and some it's terrible. i checked the scavenge valve like the manual said, appears fine. Any ideas?? Just the nature of the beast like flooding carbs???

When you took your pump in to be overhauled, did you take the scavenge pump in too? My 650D I just bought does the same thing, and from reading through the archives here it appears there's a seal in the scavenge pump that goes bad and lets fuel into the injector pump's oil supply. Supposedly it's a pretty common problem on the IH gas-start deisels. The manual says you're only supposed to have to change oil in the injector pump when you change engine oil.

I had a farmall 400 diesel one short summer and got rid of it and remember that every 50 hours of use I was suppost to change the oil in the injector pump. I never had any problems with that pump but about 6 years ago the pump on my 2290 Case started getting diesel in the oil and the diesel shop said that it was from too dry of fuel. Another time with my 1112 new holland windrower when we were swathing on steep ground it would pull lots better and not starve for fuel if we put 50 wt oil in the injector pump on it. Just a wild idea but never know

The diesel leaks through the top O,rings where the big nut is on top of the plunger. It leaks down through the top inside. I go to the hardware store and get O,rings that are a little fat and compress them with the brass washers that are in between the fittings.

I never thought of the nut, I gave it a bit of a snug up with a 1 1/8" wrench and never had a leak into the case after over 2 hours of running. maybe a fix

i will have to try that too. we have a 1948 td-6 since new and every gas start diesel i have heard of leaks diesel into the injection pump resevior slowly but rebuilds never fixed the problem. thanks for the help. by the way, if you are interested, i believe that the Great Oregon Steamup is featuring IH next summer. i am not sure if that is where the IH meet will be or if it is just their theme but the phone number is 1-503-393-2424 if you want to check it out, address is antiquepowerland.com
