Can you jump start a smta off the starter terminal instead of messing arround with the seat and battery box?? Paul.

you can jump off the terminal at the starter safely. you still have to pull the starter rod to engage the starter on your super mta. on a straight m it would energize the starter directly hooking to the starter.

I have done it but don't like to because of sparks flying everywhere -- close to carb and gas tank. Remove the cable as soon as it starts, as it will keep spinning the starter otherwise.

Yes you can but it is not reccomended because of danger of tractor starting up in gear with you standing beside it. Have seen this happen several times over the years luckily have never seen anyone seriously hurt but have seen property damage.
