Hi All

I am looking at an H that needs a home. Getting pretty close to a bottom line offer and haggling lol. The sheet metal on this ole gal is well within the realsm of me fixing.

I don't have any experience in the red tractor restoration world and have a grill quesation.

This tractor has two or three of the horizontal cross pieces missing in the grill. The rest of the sheet metal is better than the average bear and well within my capability to finish. Will the grill be a challenge to economically repair?

Thanks

Thanks all, I see that cover on George's picture. As soon as it is frozen enough to get thru the mud I am gonna look.

Happy Holidays

George,

What are you using for the decals? The ones I use have a dull looking film on them that gives the area a dull spot. Mince come from TSC. I notice it but most don't. To me yours don't look that way. Whats the secret?

Thanks,
Brian

Joe,

Thank you.

Except for my demonstrator, all my IH tractors have IH paint, 2150. The picture shows some of the dozen red ones I have. All the rest are other colors.

The secret is preparation and to keep the paint right side up...the dull side toward the tractor for adhesion and the shiney side out for appearance. :-)

George, Great looking tractors, My biggest challenge is getting the paint on right. I have done some comprehensive body work on grills, and find that they have to be pretty trashed up to be beyond repair. It takes a lot of time and patience sometimes, but that seems to be my two biggest assets at this stage of life. When I see threads asking what to do about dents, dings, tears, and other scars, I suggest trying to work out the imperfections before buying another part unless that part is real cheap. There is nothing to lose by trying, and so much to gain if successful, monetary or otherwise.

As Nebraska Cowman has said. There is a removeable peice on the grill. It is centered in the front and near the bottom. If this is what you are talking about, you are just simply missing that peice, which is (I'm guessing) the peice that CNKS has stated. If this is not what you are talking about and have bars missing out of it, you could probably snip and weld and grind and so on trying to patch it up but I wouldn't. If you are not worried about the looks, run it like that. If you are worried about the looks, it is hard telling what it will look like if you try to patch. That tin is pretty thin to work with and it is real nice and curvey. Real tough to do I would say, and to have it look right when you get done. I would look for another one in salvage yard. Got to be a better one than that, that wouldn't cost to much. Alot of H's around.

You don't have to make that piece -- try OEM Tractor Parts -- 800-283-2122 -- $30.00.

You are not perchance talking about the hole near the bottom? there is a cover for that. i am not bodyman enough to want to weld in missing bars but I'm sure it can be done. I sold a good grill recently for $100 so it might be worth fixing.
