Farmall H. Are the sleeves tapered at the bottom, or can I drive the pistons out of the bottom of the block? I already have everything else apart, and the pistons were stuck to begin with.....thanks, Andy

If you have the crank out you could pound them out of the bottom. But as far as I know everyone, including myself, hits them out of the top.

If you are planning on replacing both the pistons and the sleeves, simply take a thick long rod and pound the pistons up through the top. The sleeves will more than likely pop out with the pistons. Use PB Blaster around the edge of the top of the sleeve and the cylinder wall. That stuff will work its way down the outer sleeve wall. That is how I got the stuck pistons out of Old Rusty H of 2 years ago. That PB Blaster did a good job of coating the outer sleeve wall as I pounded them out. I was really surprised how well it penetrated.

The sleeves are not tapered at the bottom. If you have the crankshaft out, you can drive the pistons down.

Yes. I have have replaced sleeves before. You have the piston rings down in the area of the sleeve where it gets very little wear.
