Two months ago I retorqued the nuts because it ran like crap. They were a little loose. Ran good now it ran like crap and torqued them again except they really didn't get snug until 120ft lbs. Then it runs fantastic. How can they loosen or is the head gasket failing. Any way the gasket is going to get replaced and then I'll take the studs and lock tight them. Anyone ever have this happen

One possibility is that the studs need to be replaced as they are streaching. could also be that threads on studs or even in block are worn. I would definitely replace the studs and nuts on them. Not sure about loc tite, you might want to take them out sometime.

Another problem could be that your head needs to be milled. An irregular surface would be the cause for the studs to be streatching. If it happens again I would definately look into that along with a complete gasket kit. Milling a head is not all that expensive.
