I have a mid 40's "H" with a waterpump that is leaking bad. I was going to try and repair the pump but found another one first. My book shows basically taking apart the front end of the tractor. Is there an easy way to change the water pump on these tractors?

Thanks

Is the pump just leaking out the front? If so you can first tighten the packing nut and if that bottoms out you can add packing. It is kind of miserable working blindly on the drive mechanism, but I have done it. Roger

You have to pull the sheetmetal off, steering shaft, unbolt the fan shroud and remove the radiator.. there's no easy way around it. It's not as bad as it sounds though, everything comes apart quickly. The two bolts on the bottom of the radiator may give you trouble.

I also have to change a water pump on a 44 M. Wide front end with a huge solid plate under front. It all has to come off to remove the radiator. One little one inch acess hole to drain, that's it. uuuggghhh.

I have done it every imaginable way. If you can get the fan blades off, the pump will come out if you unhook the upper hose and move the top of the radiator forward. It will also come out with the fan blades on and the radiator tipped forward. You have to pull it through the governor side with the top vent tube removed from the governor and the shroud on the radiator unbolted and straddle and rotate the fan blades over the governor assembly as you angle it out.

I gave up on Champions a few years back. Been having excellent luck with AC C86 or AC C87.

IF you untighten the top radiator hose, the radiator will push forward. Unbolt the gooseneck assembly and remove it. Next unbolt the pump and lift it out.

It is going to be work,
First, undo bolt on steering rod in front of the universal joint just ahead of the temp and oil guages. Remove the woodruff key as well. Second, get a cold chisel and loosen the nut on top-front of the steering bolster and remove steering stick by twisting and pulling from front of tractor.
Third, remove fan shroud bolts and stabilizer rod.
Fourth, unbolt radiator from beneath and pull straight up and out it comes.
Now, you are finally ready to remove waterpump.
Atleast, I think this is the only way, as there is no room to pull the pump out with the shroud in the way?
Maybe a fella could just remove the shroud and slide it over the fan blades allowing room to pull the pump? But I think it is too tight a fit.
Have fun!
