I bought a B farmall awhile back & am having problems with the clutch. It wont disengage. You have to start it in gear if you want to move it. If it is put under a big load it will disengage (when you have the clutch pedal in) It might work normally for a minute or two then go back to sticking. Whats up?

With the bottom plate removed, look at the edge of the clutch disc between the flywheel and the pressure plate. have someone step on the clutch and watch the edge of the disc, you should see it come free between the flywheel and the pressure plate. the thickness of the disc should be about 5/16" and often you can see the end of grove slots from the face surface.Sometimes when the clutch is worn out they will not disengage, though usually they just slip.good luck

Have you taken the plate off the bottom of the housing and looked at the clutch. If the plate has been left off critters like to hang out in there! There is also a grease zerk in there. A couple of pumps with a grease gun is all it needs.

When looking at the clutch, you should be able to see if the shaft is clean and not corroded.

I pulled the inspection cover off last night & looked up in there....I got a big wad of thick oil in the face. There was some heavy oil in there. It was getting dark on me & I didnt actually get a look at the clutch. Just about every seal on this tractor is leaking & dont know why. The guy that had it before me jacked around with it a bit but didnt have it long. Im wondering if he put some lighter weight oil in the trans.

Just about every seal is worn out, thats why they're leaking. Quite a job to replace all of them but you gotta start somewhere. Let us know when you get a better look at the clutch. Dave.
