I see that on Ebay there is an auction for a very early Farmall A Serial number plate. Tractor 2227. Item number: 2579200708 Anybody have any idea what the lowest serial number might be for a complete A?

I THINK probably I have the oldest Farmall A in existence. It has serial # FRA 128, was a research model put out on a farm in 1937. When I sold IH equipment 36 years ago, the zone manager, Mr Frank Peacock, now deceased, told me of a number of pieces of IH equipment that got left behind in that period, including a one of a kind cotton picker mounted on a B Farmall. The basket was above the driver and the low drum picker head was directly in front of his platform. I have owned my tractor 40 years. It has a number of oddities, such as a hydraulic pump mounting position like the C Farmall, some brackets cast into the rear axle housing and several others.

Hi Gary,
I am assuming the "Miss" indicates you are from Mississippi; if so, where? I am close to Meridian and it would be interesting to see your "A". I have three- 2 Super A's and a 100.

7 miles north of the 82/45 interchange in downtown Columbus, exactly two miles from the top of "Airbase Hill" on the right 2nd driveway past Southern Awning.

I was thru your area a little while ago; there were 2 Super A's sitting on side of road for sale. Cultivator equipment, planters and all. Wanted to stop but wife gently let me know that I already had enough tractors. About your experimental "A", I have the literature where IH applied for the patent for the "A". It has drawings and other info about the design of the "A". I think I got it from the Wisconsin Historical Society website. You probably have a one of a kind. Lewis

Appreciate your response. John Allen Cockerham had those two tractors you mentioned. He sold both of those and bought an A with add on hydraulics. I would appreciate some of your info on the A patents, etc. I had to go to work for IH to even find out the background on the serial number. Before that, they denied the existence.

All of the IH letter series tractors began with the serial number 501.

Red power magaxine ran a list of known low and high numbers a while back. When I get some time this weekend, I will see if I can find it.
