I am in the middle of a restoration on my 41 H but I can't seem to get the steering wheel off the steering shaft. I can't seem to remove the nut holding the steering wheel on. I have tried everything (penatrating oils etc) any thoughts

I just removed mine last week and had the same problem as you.Try heating it up with mapp gas tourch all around. This gas will get it very hot . Be careful not to get it to hot.Let cool for about 5 min. and spray penetrating oil on it.repete after cooling.Let cool again an use impact wrench if you have one.To get the wheel off the shaft do the same. You will have to use a 4inch puller. tighten down on it and tap on wheel hub.it should start to to break loose with a little help of a hammer. Tighten down again an tap on hub. Good Luck

I have had luck with running a 2x6 board through the steering wheel spokes and letting the other end of the board go into the inside of a rear wheel. That way, I could really put the pressure to it with only the steering wheel having to stand the torque.

If you are junking that steering wheel, take a hack saw or sawzall and cut a notch above the keyway until you are into the key itself. Then spread the cut with a chisel. You will probably still have to use a puller. I had to on Old Raceway M.

When I did my WD6 I put some pb blaster on it for about a week and then tried to get it off with a socket but couldn't---I then took my ele. impact wrench and that took it right of, then I took my vise grips and made them large enough to slide on the column under the steering wheel and took a big hammer and beat on the vise grips and it can right off.

If it won't ruin your paint, try heating it with a propane torch !
