I went by my local junk dealer the other day, he had two small Farmall's out front. One was a model A with hydraulics (aftermarket?), the other one was missing several parts but the tag said it was a model FAA. It looked similar to the A, although it was misssing enough parts that it was hard to tell.

Mowerman is correct except he left out a 0. Super A's run from FAA 250001-357958. The older A runs from FAA 501-220829. The Super A has hydraulics, the one you saw was probably not an add on, although it could have been. If one serial tag did indeed say A, it was probably because the other letters had worn off.

I have an that has serialnumber FRA 128. It was a research model. I've had it for 40 years and still use it.

I saw this posting from 3 years ago, but I just purchased a B with Tag FRB-125. Could you contact me with ANY info on your FRA128 please?

Thanks! Rob

I am guessing that you have a "Frameall" tractor, an experimental modified A or B that had an experimental hydraulic-hitch system meant to compete with Ford/Ferguson's 3 point system. I did not know any got away from IH--perhaps Guy Fay can shed light on this as I got my information from his book. I am only mentioning this because of your FRA prefix -- I could be wrong.

it just means its an A or super A depending on the serial number. super A's came after the A's. If its 25001 or greater its an super A if its below its an A.

Well okay, but what did the tag on one say A and the other say FAA?

FAA= Federal Aeronautics Administration, it means that one of those tractors could really fly.

I'm beginning to think that thats the reason for all those "Flying A" service stations all along the eastern seaboard. They were simply providing fuel for all those "FAA" tractors. Gosh, we're never too old to learn something new.
