Hi there!! Kinda got some strange questions to ask. Looking for good info,, not bashing please. Ok,, What I am attempting to do is put a 263 IH 403 combine engine 6 cyl,, into a H frame. I was doing some measuring on both the H and the 6 cyl engine. I intend on using the H front end,, and legthening the rails to accomodate the longer engine. Ok,, how many bolts holds the 6 cyl flywheel to the crank? On early 460 tractors,, some have told me that they are nothing more that 350 rear ends. Is that true? Is the bellhousing used on the 350 and the 460 close to being the same? How much bigger is the 460 flywheel than the H? Could the 460 bellhousing be bolted, to the H rearend? I know that this sounds crazy to tear up a good H,, but it is something I have wanted to try. Any specs on flywheel size,, and 460 rear end and bellhousing specs would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks in advance ChadS

Here is what my plan is ,, it is for light wieght pulling,, under 4500 lbs, and 12mph,, I am not going all out this time with the engine,, don't want to break it right off the bat HA HA,, here is a few things I found last night,, The 350-early460 had the same clutch and pressure plate,, I think I will either remachine the H flywheel to fit the 6 cyl,, or build a steel one, The back plate on the engine will be about the same as the H,, but I may make it a bit thicker,, I still want to use the original starter on it,, so that would be the hardest part of this swap,, I got the engine out of the combine late last night,, gonna tear the back of it down to make the plates and engine frame mounts later this week, Trust me,, iwill keep all of ya updated,, Maybe this could be the next big thing!! HA HA,, Thank you all for the wisom you all have given me,, Keep it coming!! Any info is great!!!!! ! ChadS

They were 350 rear ends, I don't know how much stronger the rear ends were in the 300/350 compared to the H/Super H, if any --350 rears powered by a 460 engine caused breakage and is why IH had the recall, you might keep that in mind if you actually use the tractor for any heavy pulling. And you apparantly want to put a 560 engine, not a 460 (provided the 263 combine engine is the same as the tractor engine) in an H. The 460 was a 221. I think you are going to have problems making a 560 engine fit, you really need an M. And the 560 engine broke the M--450 rear end.

You likely aren't gonna know what will work until you split each, and start measuring. I have seen a Farmall M that had been re-powered with an 806 engine. The frame rails and sheet metal were extended a few inches, and it had a shrouded electric fan pulling air through the original radiator. The owner said he used the M flywheel that he re-drilled to fit the 806 crank.

Post back when you figure this out; I'd like to know if it worked!

The 460, and the 560 were just Super M-TA drive trains. If they were 350 rear ends, I don't think that they would hold about anything. Never heard of putting a 6 cylinder in an H. I wouldn't mind putting an M motor in one, but I imagine I would have to change the drive shafts to accomidate for the size difference. Good luck with it though!!

Chad, I can't answer any of your technical questions, from reading some of your other posts, I think it is safe to assume that you already know more of the technical stuff than I will ever hope to know, and reading between the lines I believe you are also an accomplished machinist. I have seen Ms with small block chevys, so many in fact it is starting to become boring, I saw one M with a detroit 2 cylinder diesel, it sounded way to much like a B J.D. I kind of like the idea of a 460 engine in an H, it would, at least, be all I.H. Rather than lengthening the tractor, would it be possible to shove the radiator ahead a bit, and maybe use an electric cooling fan in front of the radiator? Keep us posted, I have never even attempted such a thing.

Well, for the most part,, the water port locations from the thermostat housing,, and off the left side of the engine from the water pump,, I belive the H radiator will work!! Just have to make hoses for it,, and an electric fan . I am debating though,, which sheet metal to use HA HA H or 460,, I guess I had better get the engine in it first LOL,, thanks for the compliments,, ChadS

Since the 350 evolved into the 460 I would think what you are trying to do would be very possible. I don't know for a fact whether it can be done though. It sounds like an interesting project. If you are not to far away I would like drop in sometime when you are working on it. I live in eastern Nebraska. Thanks for the info on the Super M governor. Ron
